Esther is Ninety

This weekend we will be celebrating my mother’s ninetieth birthday at a small gathering of family and her friends.

As the day approaches, I contemplate what few words I might say in her honor and I realize that the words of others would add immeasurably to the predictable words of a biased son.

Many of you in the Gotham family have met Esther. She has spoken to Gotham several times and joined us at our holiday party on at least one occasion.

From your feedback, it is clear that she has touched so many people in so many ways.

When I speak to her at her celebration, I would like to share the feelings of as many people as I can. Please join me in sharing your thoughts. I will convey as many as possible.

Thanks

The fact that Esther, my most amazing mother-in-law, decided to make herself a 90th birthday celebration beautifully speaks to her zest and love of life. She is an inspiration to everyone she meets; children immediately adopt her, strangers become friends, and teachers invite her to speak to their students so that they may touch history and learn lessons of love and hope in these particularly challenging times.
She is a true force of nature... one to be treasured and honored.

She is my mentor on forgiveness. That she chose to survive and THRIVE is an inspiration to the world. Thank you for bringing her to us.

Wonderful milestone to a woman who has had many. Enjoy the celebration, as many of us will, even if not in person.

It has been years since I heard your mother speak at a Gotham meeting at the Friars Club and I have told her story to so many people over the years. Her strength and endurance through such unimaginable horror has left such an impression on me. Makes some things I am dealing with pale in comparison for sure. Happy Birthday Esther!

I will never forget Esther’s vivid and moving story about escaping Nazi’s with a gaggle of girlfriends thru a forest to Switzerland She said that her saving grace was the sturdy shoes her father insisted she take. She never saw her parents again. Esther’s resilience, grit and infectious humor are an inspiration and gift to us all. Happy Birthday to a
valiant woman

Victoria and I often speak about how happy and lucky we were to hear your mom speak at the Friars Club. She is a wonderful person with an amazing spirit! Please pass on our love and gratitude. .
