IMHO, political polarization is profitable. That may sound strange, but it’s true. The more divided people become, the more money certain groups make.

News companies know that anger keeps people watching.
Social media platforms know that outrage gets clicks, shares, and comments.
Politicians know that strong emotions bring donations and loyal voters.

Calm, balanced conversations don’t spread as fast. But arguments do. The louder and more extreme the message, the more attention it gets. And attention means money.

I believe this creates a cycle that is hard to break. Media outlets highlight the most shocking stories. Influencers post the most dramatic takes. Leaders focus on what divides us instead of what brings us together.

When people feel angry or afraid, they stay engaged. That engagement turns into ad dollars, campaign donations, and higher ratings. The result is a system that rewards conflict. If we want less division, we have to understand who benefits from it and stop feeding the machine with our constant outrage.
