Traveling is always risky, but in today's climate...

Traveling, whether by car, bus, train or air always has risks.  However, today we know that with the shut down, it comes with what most think are additional risks.  I had my own concerns as I was traveling home (being Amarillo, TX) this past week for the memorial service of a very close pseudo family member.  If any of you have heard, I personally have the worse travel luck in history.  So I am always on guard.  Never surprised when issues come up.  They can be small, a short delay, moderate, lost luggage, or bigger, like a complete cancellation after 4 delays that stretched over a 2-day period.  BUT, yesterday, as I had delays of both of my flights, apparently due to mechanical issues, I had thoughts that were not so pleasant.  Of course, many around me were discussing that it wasn't really mechanical issues, but rather delays created by short staff and was easier to claim was mechanical.  I think I would rather think it was staff vs. a problem with the large piece of metal that is about to propel me through the sky at a very fast pace!

All of this creates stress and anxiety in many people.  Including me, as my daughter is currently traveling from DC back to Texas for business purposes this weekend.

Of course, the news today was that possibility of "closing some air space" - gees, that sounds like war fare stuff!

How are any of you changing any of your travel plans, if at all, because of the current situation?

I am traveling with my wife to NY to see a Dr for 2nd opinion. Its a one day trip and flying out the next morning. Yes, I am concerned. As a frequent flyer, I have been somewhat immune to the usual delays. But now, air traffic controllers not getting paid, makes me very uneasy flying. It doesnt help that Jet Blue, my preferred points airline, just grounded 4 Airbus A320's due to mechanical issues...so they say.
