Except, perhaps, for walking and chewing, you really can't do two things at the same time. I was at a conference on health care. Two days of presentations. Lawyers sitting behind long rows of narrow tables. Several laptops and many, many smartphones resting on the tablecloths that covered the tables. My phone found its way to the space in front of me. Although I turned off the ringer, the light of alerts often caught my eye. "I can listen to the presentation and check that message."

I learned, in a very unscientific, albeit compelling experiment, that you can't do two things at once.

Proven over and over, you can't do 2 things at once WELL. It also hampers productivity, which is a surprise to those attempting it. Thanks for this year end reminder when it is so easy to get caught up in multi tasking.

Sometimes I have a youtube and TV news running simultaneously and I mute or stop one of the other when the need arises. And I often have sports radio, the news or music allegedly in the background when I work, write, read.....
and in the car, music or sports talk
and certainly I can be deep in thought while in activity.
