About a Pen

I was at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Boston with the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group. Since I am secretary of the group, I was scribbling notes when a museum guard came up to me and asked if I was writing with a pen. She didn't confiscate the pen, but advised me that my using it was prohibited and gave me a little pencil. I was fine with the admonition. I guess they fear the impact of a pen on the art. As I continued in the gallery, I noticed a young woman sitting in a bench taking notes. She was using a pen! For a moment, I wasn't okay with my earlier admonition. I reflected. Selective enforcement?

You should treasure your little pencil and ignore the slight.

Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's almost all small stuff.

I think its an odd caution, but selective enforcement is prevalent these days. I'm with Fred, treasure the pencil and ignore the perceived injustice. Do a blog on the Metro Contemporary Glass Group, sounds interesting!

All great answers, another is perhaps one guard being zealous and another not so much. I hope in the end you enjoyed the Museum and had a wonderful day.
