Homecoming

Last Saturday I went back to our old High School (we still live in Roslyn) to take in the Roslyn High School Homecoming football game.

So many memories welled up, eg, it is the same field on which Joanne was a cheer leader and upon which I played soccer.  Better yet, I was joined by my son David and grandson Jackson, Roslyn High School attendees also.

Most noteworthy, I bumped into Steve and Joan Dichter.  Steve was my Soccer and Baseball teammate and Best Man at our wedding 50 years ago.  Joan was Joanne's business partner in Gifted Desserts.

Who says you can't go home again?

So rare in this day and age that people stay in or near the same area they grew up and can share that memory with their kids and family. Great to see this.

You are so lucky !!!! you had a long and wonderful journey that put you back full circle. you are happy healthy and blessed - and still on the adventure. This blog made me tear up a little from being touched.

Lovely. We forget. . . . :)
Can always take a deep breath and minute to remember.

I feel the same when I discuss where we live with my kids. Having grown up in Oceanside and having my kids grow up there too, it's a wonderful shared experience we have.

As some know I play full court twice week at my former elementary school's gym.

I want to somehow keep this relevant to the group . I grew up in Roslyn and so when I return for a visit I take whomever down Memory Lane . And what a treat it is ! The occupants of the vehicle tumble out at the East Hills Elementary School for a round of stick ball against the brick wall of the gym with home plate chalked in place . Old Spaulding pink rubber ball and a broomstick cut down to size . See that fence ? Steve Stelzer hit one over the fence and out onto Round Hill Road . It was a blast then and a blast now . Never to be duplicated . He was ten years old . He shaved . Then the group piles into the rental car and heads to Andels ( just closed ) for Pastrami and bagels and lox and a cream soda . Maybe a drive by the old house on Andover Road or Fred and Joanne's AKA Bobby Lieb's . Roslyn was unique . You could ride your bike anywhere . With the playing cards and clothespin big radial engine ! Archie's and then Mo's for a greasy burger and fries . Every neighborhood is still nostalgic. Old Norgate , New Norgate , Strathmore had the pretty girls and Westwood had the handsome men . Fairfield Park was Catholic and Country Estates was Jewish . Roslyn Estates was elite . Carefree " I Like Ike " days and fireflies. Mr. Softee truck and Good Humor new flavor Toasted Almond ! Roslyn High School home of the Bulldogs . Steve Dichter went to Dartmouth along with the Radish brothers Mike and Pete . Bruce O'Hara "Spook " went to William and Mary . Stuff like that . Intimate and nostalgic . I can still smell the Honey Suckle on Barberry Lane or the Chlorine in that pool Oh that pool !!!! On Hickory Hill ! OH THAT POOL !! I took Cynthia Amos to Homecoming while George Linck was at Dartmouth . She fell for me in my dad's old powder blue ' 56 Buick convertible . Way out of my league . May Cindy RIP . Oh that pool though .
