Interesting People

I have always been a student of people. I enjoy hearing their stories. I think it helps to broaden my own perspectives.

Last night I had occasion to talk to a man from Nepal. He had come here 20 years ago as a student and made a life. He married, raised children, and has owned several businesses along the way. But he hasn’t seen his Nepalese family since his arrival in the United States. Luckily, they are all safe after the recent earthquake but it sounds like they were not far from vast destruction.

He was very interesting, having started with nothing and built a full life. We talked about life strategies, parenting, business and all sorts of things.

Just interesting.

People are fascinating! I love immigrant stories. They pick up and move, not speaking the language, not knowing anyone, not having a job, and make a new life. Where do they stay? How much money do they have? How do they find a job? Things we take for granted in our own town, city or country.

My kids complain that I talk to anybody and everybody. Part of the reason is for instances like this. You never know who you're going to meet.
