Patriotic

Holidays

I rarely get to write a blog on a holiday since very few holidays fall on a Saturday. However, today is one of those special days.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Our nation celebrates with red, white and blue paraphenalia, fireworks, sales at stores and, of course, barbeques.

There is a deeper meaning beyond all this consumerism....patriotism. What causes you to feel patriotic?

For me it's the site of a man or woman in military uniform. I am always blown away by that person's willingness to sacrifice their life to serve our country.

Stay safe this weekend.

It is because of the men and women who have and continue to defend our country, that we have the freedom to celebrate this and any other holiday we wish. Happy Independence Day!

There is no greater place to live than the United States of America, more freedom to pursue our dreams and goals, more opportunity if you want it, nowhere better for me today.
I do worry that we get caught up in our subgroups, whatever they are-Gotham, LGBTQI, USA, Women, videographers, etc- and forget that we are all here on this one planet and we'd better learn to take care of it and get along or we won't be here for long...

The reason that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4 was because they wanted to do it on a holiday.

John Adams was certain that there would be fireworks and church bells ringing on the day the Declaration was signed…July 2nd…it was publicly proclaimed on July 4th.
So remember September 17th as well…the day the Constitution was ratified.

I read the Declaration of Independence in the Times every July 4th. What an incredible document.

I also read The Declaration of Independence-- out loud to my children-- every year.

My 2 favorite holidays are July 4 and Thanksgiving. Great symbols which all Americans can participate in and cherish themselves and each other.
