Its Blockbuster Time

Categories

It’s that time of the year again, summer blockbuster time. Don mentioned it last week when he wrote about seeing “Jurassic World.” It’s that time when the huge movies are released. They are meant to totally captivate you and bring you into their world. And for two hours you’re transplanted to somewhere else and your sense of what’s going on in your world disappears.

I will never forget the first time I saw “Independence Day.” I was so caught up in what was going on in the movie that, when the movie ended, I jumped, forgetting momentarily that I was in a movie theater. At the time I was going through a very painful divorce but, for those two hours, my problems were forgotten and all I was concerned about was whether Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum would save the world. “Independence Day” gave me that escape from my difficult reality that I desperately needed at that time.

Do you enjoy the blockbuster season? What is your favorite?

Sorry, don't even watch them when they are on TV

Independence Day was last of its Kind that enthralled me. I recall Star Wars at the landmarked and since troubled (as to the building's disposition) RKO Keith, Lawrence of Arabia and The Longest Day. Not sure that 55 Days In Peking fit blockbuster but a fave movie none the less. Hard to find a popular movie that moves me to the box office these days. I go see what Shelly wants. Last was Exodus which if it were an original story I'd have enjoyed it more..
