Power Failure

There was an eerie sense as I opened my eyes the other morning. Something wasn't right. As my eyes focused, I realized that none of the usual lights were on. No digital numbers on the clock radio, no telltale glows from the chargers plugged into the wall and no ambient light from the street.
No power. I went to the window and confirmed the troubling suspicion. No power.
At one time I would have not been unduly troubled by this disturbance. My faith in the anticipated momentary return to normal would have prevailed. But then there was Sandy -- and twelve days without electricity.
What was once merely annoying is now traumatic.

It is amazing how quiet it is without all the electronic hums and how dark without all the pinpricks of light telling us our devices are powered! But, at least you still had your IPhone?

When those lights flicker I begin to shake.....
Can't believe how dependent we are on our electricity and objects which require it...

I call it postSandy disorder. I shake when the lights flicker or it rains very hard.

Mostly I remember that we survived the powerless days of Sandy, so we will survive any other power outages. But it's annoying then peaceful.

I like that I can charge my iPhone in my car. I look forward to doing that one day with my mac (could be a way already exists).
