As many who know me have experienced, I am addicted to photography (it is amazing how fine the "in the moment" Blackberry snap shots can be). Most of all, I am hooked on shots of sunrise and sunsets.

No doubt, the celebration and lamentation of the sun's eternal rise and fall is embedded in our primeval DNA. We are wired to worship the sun, the source of life and nature.

If you are my facebook friend you may have over dosed last week on my daily Key West sunset shots. Truth be told, each day I thought "enough already" and then it faded down in the West and created another, one of a kind, magnificent and irresistibly vivid water color painting and I was compelled to post still another captured moment of beauty. (some of them are attached hereto).

Life and the human experience can be so basic, simple and glorious.

So this is my humble salutation to the sun!

When we're down in Uruguay, there's a spot on the peninsula which is one of only two places in the world where you can stand in one place and see the sun rise and set over water. The sunsets are spectacular, and my wife (who is Dutch-speaking) likes to see "die son en die zee zink sette" (the sunset over the ocean). Apologies to any Dutch speaker for probably misspelling every word!

My wife and I spent our honeymoon on a cruise in the Scandinavian countries. It was in the month of June, and we decided to go to the bar at the top of the ship every night to watch the sunset. Of course in those countries in June the sun sets sometime between 1-2:00 a.m. It was the most amazing thing as the sun just didn't want to go over all the way over the horizon. It just hung there for hours of twighlight with every shade of purple, red, and orange you can imagine. Those are still the most amazing, never ending sunsets I've ever seen. I don't think a camera could have done them justice.

Not sure why my picture showed up in the Anonymous comment (I'll leave that to the Admin). When I was a teenager, I took a picture of a spectacular sunset over the Mediteranean. It hung at my parents' house for many many years. It was before the digital age and I'm not sure what happened to it. Every sunset I see brings back that picture.
