Did you ever ponder how long you will live and how much time is left?

I do and I try to trick myself by saying that I'm going to live to 100.

Both my parents lived to 86 and neither was as physically fit as I work to be. So I like to believe I'm on track.

Having said that another trick is to be in the moment and enjoy life to its fullest.

But then we are encumbered by unavoidable wastes of time. Some examples which come to mind are runway take off delays, Doctor's office visits, waiting on long lines, automated telephone answering traps, being stuck in traffic or with an intolerable person.

What should one do as the sands of time trickle down?

There's a rumor that if you let a woman sit in the front seat you become more tolerable!!!
Hah...j/k
What works for me is switching it around...that long doctors wait might be an emergency that you may find yourself in one day..so be patient and be grateful it's not you.
Long lines...consider it free thinking time.
Traffic...another time to be grateful that if there is a serious accident it was not you...

Maybe while these time suckers are happening you can find a cure for insomnia! PLEASE

I try to allow myself to turn these annoyances into little moments of zen

I'm forever waiting for others, mainly because I prefer to be early for appointments; but most of the time because many people feel it's OK to keep others waiting. Depending on the situation, I'll make a call or send an email or text to some one just to say "hi" and let them know I was thinking of them.

If it's going to be a long wait, I'll do some work or schedule a meeting or two after reaching out to say hello to one or two people. That makes the long waits happy and productive. :)

I have a theory. The amount of time you wait for certain (special in your life) people is added to your allotted time.

I hate to be late (after being late to SAT). Others have a more free spirit!

After reviewing how long my grandparents and parents lived, I have calculated my longevity to the day.

Never make people wait.
Never spend time with intolerable people unless there's a lesson to be learned.
Utilize those traffic and waiting times breathing deeply and getting to know yourself better.
Our time here is tiny, I'm going for 120.

Move to Key West, life goes by slower here. :-)

Aside from the last one for which the only solution is not to travel with intolerable people, always having a book or something available to read works for me. Those cracks of time are times to relax and read.
I happen to be waiting at the dentist so it's a perfect time to catch up on Gotham blogs and then I have a good book to dig into.

In "High Anxiety," one of Nurse Diesel's (Cloris Leachman) most famous lines was "those who are late do not get fruit cup." I have always found it funny as a double-edged gentle rebuke to both the tardy and to myself when I am too doggedly focused on my own agenda.

Donna Levine wrote being late is disrespectful to the people waiting for you. Therefore i am always really early. When i get somewhere early i too usually read. It kinda freaks me out that i am on the down hill and that i have lived more that i have left. I try to keep that in the back of my mind and try to live life with no regrets.

Just live.
I generally do not do lines and where i believe I would be waiting, I usually am prepared with reading material on one kind or another.
Others sensibly use wait time to chill down

Dr. Seuss asked "How did it get so late so soon?" Good call on the topic. You must have some TIME on your hands. I guess the pot boils more slowly when you are watching it ? TIME is so relative. Talk with Albert Einstein about TIME. Did you see Interstellar ? Let's talk going back in TIME. "Back to the Future?" Can you see the hands on the clock moving? "TIME flies when you are having fun!"
I went to the funeral of a dear friend yesterday. Talk about TIME running out. Somebody once said "TIME is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it but you can spend it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back." I don't do lines. I don't do rushing. I don't do wait and I don't do late. I don't HAVE to do anything as a matter of fact. Somebody else once said " 3 things you cannot recover in life: the WORD after it's said, the MOMENT after it's missed, and the TIME after it's gone." My two Labrador Retrievers often tell me that " They are not looking for someone who has everything, but someone who has TIME to spend with them more than anything!" So ...The most important lyric about TIME as penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards reads " And TIME waits for no one , and it won't wait for me."
