Your Favorite Music App

I recently discovered Spotify and Pandora. I may be late to the game, but until now I was devoted to my itunes playlists.

That said, I am enjoying the immediacy of being able to listen to new music or really any kind of music whenever the moment moves me. I have to say, my gym workouts have been more intense with this new discovery.

What is your favorite music app?

PS: Because I think you must all be very tired of hearing me gear up to send my daughter off to college, I chose not to write that blog. That said, if you are curious, it has been great for her but predictably awful for her mother. I know there are many Gothamites sharing my pain right now.

I was actually expecting the college blog. You really surprised me.

I created a station on iTunes Radio, aptly named "A Good Feelin' To Know." My fave DJ, and curator, Pete Fornatale, passed away a bit early and i used to rely on him for new music. Unless you pay for the app, you face commercials and a limited ability to skip. I only really use Spotify when Fred's muse, Bob Lefsetz, makes suggestions. The services are useful when you wish to check out something new that you do not own. I enjoy hearing what might be called deep cuts and the my self programmed station has streamed songs I own but have yet to digitize. Pandora when I tried to program strayed to music I had no interest in. I recently went with iTunes Match and the last time I played Poco's DeLIVErin' which I own in LP, and CD (and thus its on my iTunes on the Mac and iPhone, the Match version played a newly re-mastered disk much superior in quality to the original. It was a surreal experience.

Dabbled in Spotify, but let it go. Love Pandora, live off my I-tunes, but I am starting to think satellite radio might be for me. Used to listen to a lot of talk radio, but I can't stomach it much anymore.

From Mike Zeldes.....Spotify is amazing. For $10. a month you can get pretty much any song, album you want and can download them to your mobile device. Then youcan create your own playlists and it also has tons of cool playlists based on mood, interest, etc. Best $120 annual expense you will ever have.
