4th of July

What do you write when you blog on the 4th of July?

Do you go with trivia, trivial, practical, sentimental, clever?

Before I go there, I must remark that I suppose it's good that the holiday falls on a Friday this year giving us a 3 day weekend and all. Personally, however, I like when it come on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, allowing you to create a mini vacation.

Trivia: the vote on the Declaration of Independence was on July 2nd and the Union was saved on that same day at Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Trivial: we are all patriotic and fireworks watchers, be we Tea Party adherents or Lefties.

Practical: don't drive too far as gas is 17 cents a gallon higher than last year.

What can be more sentimental than recalling Lou Gehrig's farewell speech 75 years ago which remains in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere: Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.

Clever: I'll leave that for Weekenders Mitch and Don's follow up. :)

Enjoy the Holiday weekend (no matter how short)!

Hah! I woke up looking for Mitch's blog thinking it was Saturday!
I will be spending some adult time at the Z Hotel's rooftop party. Hoping the rain holds back and LIC provides a great view :)
Happy 4th!!!!

There was an interesting story on the Declaration and whether a period following "pursuit of happiness" was a typo. That might be a nice topic to explore next year. The NY Times story calls the period "errant" - http://tiny.cc/rn9gix.

For some reason, July 4th is a holiday I have always held dear. Don't know why....sentimental i guess. I remember where I was nearly every 4th.

July 4th is a time to remember, no matter how it is celebrated, that we are the luckiest people around the globe because of the freedoms we have, enjoy, and take for granted.

A 4th of July blog in itself becomes historic. Our leader goes down in "history" along with all the other signers....for being the Gotham Independence Day bogger.....Happy Holiday!
