Tomorrow

It's Father's day tomorrow and in honor of my Dad, I submit the following excerpts from a previous blog I posted in July of 2010.

My Dad.
He helped me with my pinewood derby car for cub scouts by not building it himself

He chased me up the stairs when my sister complained to him that I hit her (which I never did)
His back was a saddle I rode, laughing and falling when he bucked
He
rooted me on the football field and in the classroom

He laughed easily and smiled a lot

And helped me any way he could

I idolized and admired him for
his grace under pressure
His ability to think through an issue to truly understand it
To be open to new ideas and measured in his response

His determination to provide a loving home for my Sister and I
Being a great provider so we had what we needed and more

Always there when I needed him
And he taught me the true meaning of the word Dad

Being a Dad is the best job I have ever had in my life and I owe that to him
. He was the best Dad any son could every want, need or hope for.

I will miss him terribly yet he will live in my heart and I will live on continuing a tradition he began, living life with integrity, authenticity and love, and every now and then, a good glass of scotch.

Happy Father's Day to all!

Great blog. Also a standard all Fathers should hope to emulate.

Great blog!! I remember the pinewood derby. Haven't heard that term in a long time.

Mitch,

You had a great Dad, so did most of us. Thanks for recalling the pinewood derby. With me, it was Dad making it there for my most impressive Little League game performances, a 1-0 complete game shutout. Although I was praised by my coach for a curveball rivaling Warren Spahn (can you believe that?) having Dad was the biggest thrill.

Happy Father's Day! I think the record shows you meet the standard your dad set! :)
