Pot hole Bingo:

If you drive you play it

Salt and plows make it

Tires and suspensions hate it

How many more weeks to evade it?

Not so great for those of us who walk either.

Cute! My daugter lives in Williamsburg and the roads off the BQE are like war zones. You need a hummer to navigate them.

Pot holes have helped the repair shops but hurt the insurance companies with increased claims. This of course means we will ultimately pay in higher premiums (and taxes when the roads are eventually fixed). Dan S.

but what's really irritating as a NYC taxpayer - is that it takes 7 men to fix one :-/

The Bronx River Parkway has never been this bad in all the years I've been driving a car (more than I'd care to admit to). Treacherous, scary and very tough on the car.

This is great! I am going to read it to the 311 operator next time I call to report these menaces

I heard there is actually a name for the type,of injury people get from stepping into a pothole. But get ready gotham ... Spring is on the way,, the potholes will be filled and we will move forward like the resilient gothamites we are.

I hate to repeat this - walking is indeed treacherous, I'm being very careful and watching for hazards, but going on public transit makes it a much easier problem to deal with. No potholes in the subway!

In the 1700's before mechanized digging machines, POTTERS dug for clay by hand. In the winter the ground froze making it impossible to dig in the fields. So they had to dig along the lanes where carriages and horses broke down the soil , thus creating POT HOLES ! Plagiarized from the biography of Josia Wedgwood. On another note...I believe MH # 370 was stolen by someone...Maybe the Captain. A 777 is worth 275 million. Thought provoking. His home built simulator was used to practice takeoff and landings on short runways carved into the jungle. Stay tuned ! PIRATES !!

Good blog, Fred! Potholes are also dangerous on 2 lane roads...while one driver is avoiding a pothole, an inattentive driver coming the other direction can crash into him.

I am curious if people see a pothole linger beyond the fives days Mayor BdB promises they'd get filled. Years ago I argued for another melting substance than the pothole contributing material currently used. I have to find "file" and share it with one of my council friends.
As to the toll question, in terms of MTA bridges most of the toll revenue beyond about $24 million supports the LIRR and MetroNorth. An antiquated formula that needs repair. Most of the severest potholes involve local streets and routes and remain the responsibility of local government.

Down two tires and one hub cab so far! Trying to be real careful especially at night when its dark and harder to see the potholes!
