My Style of Monday Quarterbacking

Categories
Entertainment Blogs

Having the Monday blog spot the day after the Super Bowl puts me in a great position to be a Monday Quarterback. Of course, anyone who knows me knows that I don’t have the expertise to second guess the coaching of the game. My interest in the game is in the commercials.

This year, I am very interested in the commercials that I saw before the game. It seems as if every year more and more commercials are either leaked or previewed before the game. If you have a Facebook page, you must have seen prior to the game this year’s Budweiser Clydesdale commercial which features one of the horses and a puppy. This commercial has been shared numerous times on the Facebook, mostly by women, with the caption, “guaranteed to make you cry.” While most beer commercials seem to be aimed at men, I think it was brilliant of Budweiser to develop, and then allow to be previewed, a beer commercial which positively affected so many women.

On the other hand, I found the previews for Budweiser’s other Super Bowl commercial very disconcerting. In those previews, we see a wigged Arnold Schwarzenegger stretching in provocative ways to prepare for a ping pong match. I’m not sure whether it was the wig or the facial expressions he made while stretching, but I was extremely uncomfortable watching the previews. I did find the full commercial, also previewed on the internet, in which a person is handed a Bud Light and proceeds on a strange night with cameos by Minka Kelly, Don Cheadle, and One Republic, fun to watch.

One of my favorite commercials  previewed this year was the commercial for Dannon Oikios yogurt, where John Stamos, Bob Saget, and Dave Coulier reprised their roles from Full House. I thought it was funny and smart, especially given that John Stamos is already a spokesperson for Dannon. That commercial led to another, and funnier, reunion on the Jimmy Fallon Show and several other humerous late night appearances by the trio, all before the commercial was actually aired during the Super Bowl.

Lastly, there were the previews for the David Beckham commercial where the producers were polling as to whether the commercial aired on the night of the game should show Beckham covered or uncovered. I am a Beckham fan but I am not a fan of all his tattoos. So I believe I may be the only person on this planet who voted to cover Beckham up.

Were there any commercials that actually premiered during the Super Bowl? What was your favorite commercial?

How could Dylan not know that Chrysler is owned by an Italian company (Fiat) as he heralded it as American? Almost as bad as his ghoulish make up!

Loved the Doritos time machine....simple, clever, funny, got the point across.

I thought the Radio Shack commercial was the best of the night. I found the Beckham commercial misplaced. I you can't have a double standard watching a football game...where can you it anymore.

I agree with the Radio Shack commercial. I had a good laugh about that. Especially with the bird from Clash of the Titans. I loved that movie as a kid. Totally forgot about that. I was pretty disappointed with the rest.

I bet a lot of people didn't even see the commercials because they turned off the game after the first half like I did! Could possibly be worst one ever played from a pure football standpoint. Bruno Mars/Red Hot Chili Peppers best part!

I liked the controversial ones Coke and Cheerios. They were about inclusiveness and how we are all connected, like Gotham.

I just didn't find this year's group of commercials that entertaining - then again, this year's game was not very entertaining...oh well

The commercials were ok, I think people continued to watch the game just for them. They spend too much money, and most are not even that memorable. The percentages are not that good.

KIA spoof on the Matrix, and the Radio Shack commercials were the winners.

Not a Beckman tattoo fan either! Like the Budweiser Clydesdale Puppy commercial. Dogs and Horses are my favorite. Strange enough I liked the Sonos commercial where the white rooms became covered in different shades of color. I was just wondering what would have happened had they all met!!!!

I just learned this eve that crowd noise came into play in a facility where it was expected not at all. I was more interested in individual play. On the interceptions I observed professionals who did not come back to the ball and allowed the defenders to make plays. I was upset Denver ran the ball out of the end zone rather than take a knee to start. I almost expected a safety on the first series. Often a game turns on one play. Who knew it's be the first play from scrimmage?
