Fredslist is Awesome

I shared one of my favorite Gotham experiences at a Gotham meeting this past week. Fred urged me to share it in a blog.  And, after some thought, I agreed.

Several years ago, I was hired to represent a woman in a divorce action who owned a second home in a secluded county in North Carolina. She wanted to buy out her husband’s interest in the home. To do so, we had to find a certified appraiser to provide a neutral valuation of the home.

Given that it was an extremely acrimonious divorce, the parties could not, or would not, agree to an individual to prepare the valuation. So, it was left to the attorneys to find a certified appraiser with knowledge of this secluded area. We were not optimistic about being successful.

With a lot of hope, I reached out to Fredslist. Within minutes of the request being posted I received an email from a member with a cc to her aunt.  The member’s aunt was a certified real estate appraiser who lived in that county. Within moments I was on the phone with her.

The appraisal was completed and the case settled. My client was extremely grateful and impressed. Even the other lawyer was impressed. To this day, that client still refers matters to me.

That experience taught me that the reach and power of Fredslist is incredible. What’s your Fredslist story?

Got great assistance from Fredslist on matters including on a housing association issue for my mother-in-law and a great referral that I was able to pass along to a client re solar tax credits. Better still is the terrific feeling I get when I have a connection or suggestion and can reply to someone else's request.
