Exquisite Agony

The Yankees, my boyhood favorite team, imploded Wednesday night and lost the World Series :(

The loss caused me to suffer exquisite agony.  Exquisite Agony is a turn of phrase I rarely use, but when I do I really feel it!

It describes pain I experience in an extremely raw and gnawing way.  I feel it down to my very core.

It is a feeling which borders on enhanced anxiety that is not sought nor frequented.

I consider it an intense signal from my mind and body that I am alive!

Yes, 2 days later, I am still suffering the 6 outs and 5 runs the Yankees gave the Dodgers in the worst inning I ever witnessed.

Alas, I am alive, but my beloved, inept Yankees are not!

Its tough when errors decide the outcome. It just wasn't meant to be for the Yankees. The Dodgers did prove they were the better team.

I’m so sorry for your pain. Hopefully they will come back even stronger. Hopefully you’ll be over it in time for next season.

As a fellow Yankee fan, I totally get your exquisite agony! It's tough watching our team struggle, especially in such a critical moment. But you're right—feeling that pain just shows how passionate we are. Here’s hoping for a stronger comeback next season! Hang in there!

This will be our Winter of Discontent :)

Reminds me of the time Mickey Owens dropped the ball in 1941 and Bobby Thompson hit the home run in 1951, We all got over it and so will you.

Aaron Judge, poster boy for the agony and the ecstasy award for 2024. Bet he'll never do that again !

He will be haunted by it...

Even this Mets fan was pained by that comedy of errors. Every game offers an opportunity to see something you’ve never seen before – and in cases like Game 5, something you hope you never see again.

Finding peace of mind:
That's how I used to feel about the Stones vs Beatles "rivalry". To end conflicts with others I would say that Keith Richards was my favorite Beatle.

It was easier being a Lions fan until recently. There were no expectations and therefore no disappointments.

Those 3 fifth inning plays were little league level defense. As they say in football, "Defense Wins Championships!"

I think it was Agony for the Yankee Fan and Ecstasy for the Dodgers Fan (as ABC's Wide World of Sports would announce, every week of the Agony and Ecstasy of Sports) But if your Exquisite Agony proves that you are Alive and Ready for more ups and downs in Sports Fandom--then EA is a keeper.

That other NY team did a bistle better v. the BK refugees. I was also disappointed. And I was rooting v. the refugees.
