Tipping

It is increasingly rare that I see a restaurant check without a suggested gratuity amount. Now there are more of the remote devices presented by the server which offer the suggested tip as a prerequisite to having your credit card returned.
The paper slip with the suggestions (on the pre-tax amount?) and the pen will soon go the way of the dinosaur.
The slip without a suggestion is a challenge of the mind and is becoming a distant memory.
And now one can pay on the app with no human interaction whatsoever.

Yes. So has the use of the word. Even in Ben’s commentary above.

Funny enough, this is 3rd time this week I’ve explained this:

A TIP is supposed to be Before a service To Insure Promptness. Example: TIPPING a car valet when leaving the car because you want it nearby or fast when you’re ready to leave……as opposed to a GRATuity, to thank someone for a service already provided.

Tip before. Gratuity after. Yes, many places call the gratuity a tip nowadays, but that’s the story!

It's called "guilt tipping." Especially when the server wait and looks to see if and what you have tipped! Bring back the 'tip cup!"
