Spotted Lantern Fly

With the invasion of the Spotted Lantern Fly, the expression “ I wouldn’t harm a fly!” is being turned on its head.
I am one who, literally, wouldn’t harm a fly. Routinely I’ll capture a bug or spider in the house and release it outside.
With the first news of the invasion of the Spotted Lantern Fly in our area and the potential devastation caused by it, the official edict was to kill them on sight. Although I’m not sure whether my stomping on a few would make a difference, the description of how they destroy plants and trees deputized me to fight back against the invasion.
So, “I wouldn’t harm fly” has its exception.

Agreed, and I got 3 of them on Sunday.

Let’s all do our part. It Does matter.

I started seeing them last summer in NY. I didn't realize how invasive they were at the time.Matt Nowak from Ehrlich Pest control and Gotham Queens member educated us on them.

They're fast! I've yet to successfully stomp a single one!

Killing in all it's forms is heartbreaking. What makes it particularly difficult is that these ae beautiful creatures. And.. they give a horrifying >snap< when you crush them. I have to do deep breathing every time I kill one. #SecretlySoftHearted

Saw on the news that researchers are looking at wasps in Asia who are natural enemies of the lantern fly and working to determine if it is feasible to introduce them to the US in areas with heavy lantern fly populations. What could possibly go wrong?
