Every Day

When I was young I was one lazy slacker, warranting the nickname “Klein with the big behind”.  Running

At some point in high school self loathing caused a light to go off and I started to play sports, do push ups and other exercises which I continue to do daily to this day.

Then came the running boom and I was hooked, running distance every day for almost 2 years.  They say the endorphins generated by exercise are addictive.

If it is an addiction it is a positive addiction!

Now my running days are over and it’s smooth low impact swimming which captivates me.

Amongst other things, (eating well, 8 hours sleep, Juice Plus, an enduring marriage, wonderful law partners, Gotham Giving, etc.) I’m convinced that every day exercise will keep me Forever Young!

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift

It's true! All those things you listed are what keep you young, happy and healthy.
Your diligence continues to pay dividends.

I'm with you! "Live Healthy! Live Happy!" is my motto. Maybe I should add or change it to "Live Young Longer". By the way, I wrote and submitted my promo before reading this blog. Great minds thing alike. LOL

It is true that when you’re doing things you consider to be helping others or making a difference, endorphins definitely rise. As far as exercise although I wake up with the intent I have yet to be able to begin an exercise routine, although I am determined. With regard to that your blog has inspired.

Inspiring! Good things start with good habits. Working on the 4 pillars: nutrition, moving, sleep and stress!

Great philosophy ... but you shouldn't have mentioned the old nickname. You might accidentally happen to be called that at a Gotham Bandit meeting soon. ;)

Yes it is! We don't do a day without it. :)

Marilyn, Put it on your calendar as an appointment. If you wouldn't cancel the appointment if it were a business meeting, don't cancel on yourself.

Daily exercise is the foundation to a longer life. Now, If I could just keep at it consistently, I can benefit myself.

Endorphins . Without them I have to take another shower before bed . If I haven’t indulged in serious cardio that day , I feel unclean . Toxic . But cutting to the chase here . This mania started back in the sixties as a young Naval officer . Once addicted to the endorphin buzz it’s basically over . Nothing replaces it . But here is the grand prize . As we age we dodge some bullets . In some cases we can’t escape and fall victim to a plethora of physical events . In the ER after my TBI the Doc informed me that being in such great shape saved my life . The day before while at 7000 feet I had bench pressed 225 pounds and ran 30 minutes of wind sprints . I dined on a large garlic and anchovy pizza washed down with 3 fingers of Bulleit dark rye and an ice cold Peroni. I was 71 . In the best shape of my life . I’m only here to tell this story because my body was made of iron . Today I swim 5 days a week although I suffer from left side deficit due to the TBI . Traumatic Brain Injury . I can swim the length of the Olympic pool underwater . The endorphins kick in and I devour my dinner . Life is good . Get in the damn gym or whatever it takes . Trust me . It’ll save your ass when the going gets tough ....And it will ... THAT you can take to the bank .

My fave version

from The Last Waltz (but not your last one.....)

Buffalo Springfield has a Stephen Stills song that is closer to the title but above matters more to you.

Rona Gura

I've been adding 3-5 minutes of meditation to my daily routine. Love it!!!
