Superstition

Are you superstitious? I know I am!

Superstition is defined as a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a peculiar thing, occurrence, proceeding or the like – irrational fear of what is unknown or mysterious.

Another definition is a widely held unjustified belief in supernatural causation leading to certain consequences of an action or event, or a practice based on such belief.

There are so many things that I do and don’t do based upon an ominous fear of what might happen if I did or did not do it.

For example, before a game I will never ever step on a crack in the sidewalk and of course stepping on the foul line must be avoided at all costs.  Also, I have to wear the same pink shorts and ratty hat I have been sporting for 20 seasons (and there is more).

A hat can not be placed on a bed.  I must go through the same middle turnstile every day.  It goes on and on and on.

On the other hand, my wife Joanne is totally immune to superstition and has little patience for my madness.

Don't forget your visit to St. Patricks before a game. Do your superstitions go beyond the Batmen Games....

Thank goodness I’m not alone, or crazy.

No hats on beds, I throw spilled salt over my shoulder, and I will never write with a red pen. I’m sure it’s nonsense, but I’m not testing it!

....oh, and I will never go to a Yankee playoff game without Fred without his crazy shorts!

A belief is just a thought you keep thinking. And if it makes you feel good, why not?!

I am very superstitious!!! My kids make fun of me all the time. They will hide a salt shaker from me if it spills over so I don't shake it over my shoulder.

I believe. . . . But I think the outcomes are based on my mindset and what I do BECAUSE I believe. Lol. Either that or fate and out of my control. I’m probably somewhere in between you and jo. ;)

Unlike most Cancerians, I don't believe in astrology or superstition.

Not to be confused with obsessive compulsive behavior ? 40 years ago I wore a Russell sweatshirt in the 747 flight simulator. Simulators were cold dark torture chambers . My instructor was the first woman airline pilot . Bonnie Tiburzi. She was giving me my 6 month you bet your job check ride . She was breathtakingly beautiful . She sat directly behind me in the # 1 jumpseat . I was flying a 2 engine out precision approach to a 200 foot ceiling . Bonnie played with the tag that was attached to the inside collar of the sweat shirt all the way until I landed . Occasionally rubbing the back of my neck with a finger . I wore that sweat shirt for every check ride until I retired . I wore it yesterday at the pool . Diane looked at it and said “ The sweat shirt makes you look homeless !” She deep sixed it and it left in today’s trash . No check rides but the final left to take . Heading west into the setting sun . Thanks Bonnie !
