The cave

I was relieved and surprised when the 12 boys and their coach where found safe and sound in a cave in Thailand. However, the ensuing saga of getting them out became very serious when a former Thai Seal died from lack of oxygen on his way out.

I have a new perspective after finding this illustration of the cave, made with the help of a caving expert, which shows just how treacherous it is.

The cave in Thailand

Thai officials have now ruled out any immediate attempts to evacuate them despite concerns over low oxygen levels underground and poor weather forecasts.

They are considering a rescue plan involving a "buddy dive" -- where an experienced adult diver would swim with each boy -- to evacuate them to safety.

I hope it works.

Along with Richard Branson.

The cave has a large sign warning of danger but somehow their coach took them in any way. Corey is right, that entry should be barred.

We’re talking Northern Thailand here folks . Not Central Park ! Signs ? From my end I see enormous variables . Monsoonal incoming precipitation the most sketchy . Losing a SEAL is certainly evidence of that . This is a nightmare . Egress with young boys makes it almost insurmountable . I’m looking for divine intervention . Prayers for all involved . Looking for fault is counter productive .

It is so sad and scary. Happily today the first 4 boys were rescued. Prayers for the rest.

Thanks Neil.

And thankfully 4 more are now out! Global prayers, and my own continue. Yes, the entrance to this and similar caves should be blocked; doubt anyone will make the same mistake again.
