It's more than fireworks

Looking forward to some fireworks on Wednesday? After all we celebrate our nation’s independence and for many fireworks displays remain an attraction. Already enjoyed two nice displays at baseball stadiums in San Diego and Flushing, in April and a few weekends back respectively. Last night’s display, our third this year was the 5th time we combined fireworks with a concert at Town of Hempstead Park. It was leisurely. We arrived rather early; got a really good spot to the left of the sound tent. This show includes an annual salute to our veterans; a very nice touch; moreover it spoke to the need to remember those vets who need our help. Some vets got special recognition for volunteering at facilities such as St. Albans V.A. Others helped less fortunate vets. It brings to mind the efforts of many in my fraternal order Knights of Pythias which fundraises to support needy vets and to send packages to vets serving in various “theatres” abroad.

Bottom line its nice to enjoy but its important to find ways to be supportive of those who put themselves on the line for us. You know who they are. Thank them.

Great blog Corey. I think that message always gets lost in the celebrations.

Thank you Corey for another thoughtful and timely blog. I love fireworks, especially the ones at Tappan/Bar Beach and Disney's parks---when we watch the majesty of truly beautiful fireworks, we need to give pause to thank those who helped us attain the freedoms we have, and, especially now, do all that we can to help protect those freedoms and ensure our country continues to stand for, and protect its founding principals.
Enjoy the holiday.

Thank you! Coming from a vet, it makes your response more meaningful.

Our veterans deserve a much better deal than the one the currently have. The revolution is here. Hold on. Happy 4th.

Agree on our vets. Reading yesterday’s about possible staff cuts at at BK VA.

RAH !! Yeah so where was I ? Military on the Fourth ! Thank you for including our men and woman in uniform in your blog . As a veteran and having a son who currently serves I am constantly thinking of the brave soldiers who have allowed us to keep celebrating our nation's birthday . On June 6 1944 allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandyin Northern France under heavy enemy fire . This was our Greatest Generation . Does our current generation have what it takes to do It again ? Let's hope that they do . There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank all of our warriors . Fly the flag folks and be proud . Happy Birthday America . Let Freedom Ring . Thanks Corey and Thanks Gotham !

HOO-
Updated. Was really looking forward to the full post and you certainly made it worth the wait. For me, I think we can rise to the occasion as a nation. I expect each generation if put to the test to rise and respond (or is it respond and rise); think it reflects the eternal optimist in me.
