Good Memories

I loved hearing those bells when I was growing up in New Hyde Park. One thing I could never figure out...when I asked for any one of 20 different types of those ice cold sweet desserts, the Good Humor man would stick his hand in that small door in the back and whip one out. Without looking he knew exactly where every single type of ice cream bar and sandwich was.

It was the coolest...I even started picking obscure ice creams bars to test his skill. He was perfect every time!

Never gave it a thought. I was new Hyde Park on Queens side until we moved to Glen Oaks (same JR HS though).

The Good Humor man coming down the block was awesome!! In Brooklyn, we also had Bungalow Bar Ice Cream Trucks - they looked just like the Good Humor Trucks, but the Bungalow Bar man had ice cream sandwiches with chocolate ice cream! Thanks for the memories!!

Yes, the ice cream truck was pure joy. Great name for the business.

Mitch, your blog brings back fond childhood memories. I remember if we were playing in the street and heard the Good Humor man coming, we would call up to our windows for our parents to throw money down to us.

Thank you, a memory we apparently all share. I still remember my favorites. Wonder if they would ever taste as good as way back then.

I loved the chocolate chip candy bar. Vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips covered with chocolate with a chocolate bar inside. Always got that-obviously not as adventurous as you-and ate it the same way every time, chocolate coating first, then the ice cream and saved the chocolate bar for last.
