"That's A Blog"

Categories
Entertainment Blogs

According to the Gotham website, I have composed, to date, 284 Friday With Fred
blogs for Gotham.

In my dreams, they would make an interesting coffee table book, but for now I strive to continue fulfilling the creative task.

At present, Gotham has seven daily Bloggers: starting with Corey on Sunday (a "tough beat" according to the previous Sunday blogger Hard Hitting Don Bernstein), Rona on Monday, Nancy on Tuesday, Cayce on Wednesday, Ben on Thursday, me on Friday and Mitch on Saturday.

Ben and I have often conversed about the fact that when something happens to us a lightbulb goes off in our heads and we say to ourselves "that's a blog".

I usually start writing my blog on my iPhone immediately after my most recent blog on Saturday or Sunday. However, this week I toyed with blogging about the Battle of the Bands or the return with my grandson Shawn Atom to the comic book store. However, my collaborator and greatest critic Joanne nixed them as being the same old same old.

Interestingly, the inspiration for the subject of the blog oft times occurs while showering. On Wednesday morning while showering I pondered as to what would be the subject of this blog. And, presto, the concept of attempting to continue to come up with original material inspired me to blog about the job and process itself.

This may or may not be the best blog I've ever written, but it satisfies a need...

When I wrote columns initially — and it remains also a not so secret juice of my book, “The Public Ought to Know,” to use something in a current experience and relate to an issue that matters more widely.
And thanks for the shoutout for Sundays.
Jane Jacobs

Haruki Murakami once said in a book you may have gotten as a Secret Santa present, “Somerset Maugham once wrote that in each shave lies a philosophy. I couldn't agree more. No matter how mundane some action might appear, keep at it long enough and it becomes contemplative, even meditative act.”
Fred Klein

Thanks for the inspiration and edit
Fred Klein

Does that mean I would be even more creative if I started to shave again?

The minutia make the meaning.

I went to #BloggersAnonymous and became a Troll instead of keeping up with my blog (Connecticut Free Radicals - crossposted to the New Haven Register).

Process is everything. Its so integral to creativity, art, craft. I started knitting because I wanted something to do with my hands while we watch movies. I love the process and meditative/repetitive motion, the texture and color of the materials, watching something evolve. Thanks for sharing the “behind the scene” process of blogging!

Some would say we're a closely knit group

For those of you who blog I want to thank you. Although I don't always comment depending on where I am, or what is going on at the time I am reading them, I enjoy each of the Gotham blogs--and they always elicit a comment, although it may only be in my head. Schedules, conflicts, clients, family, etc. don't always allow me to attend meetings and gatherings, but the blogs continue to "connect" me. AND Victoria that was such a wonderful description of your knitting that I am going to attempt to find the time to start knitting again. I forgot how much I loved it.
Daniel Schwartz

This is how Seinfeld was created. But here, there usually is something deeper and more thought provoking. Keep up the concept regardless.

I’m not very good! Lol. My mother is amazing. I recently made my first sweater and my first sock! (Paul said I had to make something in addition to rectangles!! Lol) We could start a Gotham Knitting Circle!
Gideon Schein

Well done sir. As a veteran first baseman said to a rookie, upon getting his first hit, "Way to go kid only 2,716 more!
Fred Klein

I wish more people would comment like you, because it is a way that we cross pollinate and commune

That's a Blog . Putting it that way opens up a whole new world . From ruminations under the covers at 4AM to the laps in the pool to the long drives down the mountain to PT to the hot shower thoughts that fly through my psyche and seldom saved . The Hunter Thompsonesque creativity . The phrases . The analogies . Damn ! Our lives are a BLOG in themselves . Drawing on the significant historical bounty that comes with time . The value of substance over style . Life slows down . Much like a professional athlete . The game slows down . We can see the seams of the baseball spinning their intention . So yeah .... It's all a blog . A story to weave . A yarn to tell . Reaching out for answers . Affirming our existence . The Blog . Thanks Derf and Gotham .

Not sure that's a compliment, but it is a comment.

Roger that ! You’ve done well on that end my friend

Ben and I were just having this discussion last week. Being a blogger definitely reshaped my perception of life's experiences, i.e. that's a blog!!
