Gratitude

I'm excited...my favorite holiday is just about here. No presents exchanged, no religion, no politics (maybe:) and of course great food.

I'm particularly looking forward to frying a turkey and barbequing a couple of ducks. Both require a bit of finesse and thought. The ducks in particular have quite a bit of fat and the drippings can easily spark a flame. In fact, that happened a few years ago. I was tending the turkey in the fryer and my daughter said to me: "Dad, the gril is on fire." I turned and there were flames shooting out of my grill.

Yes, the ducks were black as coal. Funny thing though they tasted great after I removed all the charred skin ;)

If anyone would like my special duck barbeque recipe (without the flames) let me know. Happy to share.

I wish you and yours a warm and delicious Happy Thanksgiving! We have a lot to be grateful for.

Fried turkey is on my bucket list to try. I bet it's great. I had turducken in New Orleans when we were there for Thanksgiving once. So good.

Bird skin is not good for you, charred or otherwise.

Tuesday we leave for Florida to celebrate Thanksgiving with Jerry's first wife, his kids and various friends. I'm always grateful we are one big happy family and always amused at the, sometimes shocked, look on people's faces when I tell them. Happy Thanksgiving!

I look forward to enjoying Mitch's turkey and duck, burnt or otherwise.

Hi Mitch . So .... Diane and I figure that our immediate family including spouses, Sig others and grandkids has grown to 16 or so . Thanksgiving is the only day of the year that we get the whole clan under one roof for the feast . It's a ton of work but well worth it . I send out my annual Thanksgiving invite with a little you better show up because Luke ( our Marine LT. ) will be deployed next year . A 21 pounder won't cut it alone . So we fry several smaller birds as well . Over the years we've tried to burn the house down a few times . Frying is mucho dangerous . Each family member brings a side or makes one here . Big Blue is the night game this year . Against the Washington DC football club lest I get hammered for being un politically correct . Pumpkin pie and bourbon . After Diane and I go to bed the younger of the kids will be in the kitchen til 4AM or so finishing off what's left of the feast to the strains of U2 or something similar . The dogs are exhausted the next day . Happy Thanksgiving Gotham !
