More on the Theme

Perhaps it’s somewhat of a theme in our blogs this week.  I am inspired by Mitch and Rona.

Honestly, I am conflicted. I really feel strongly about matters evolving in the political arena. I also feel strongly that we need to be able to talk to each other respectfully in order to be able to get through the next few years.

Like Rona’s, my house moved to a “No Politics” zone around Thanksgiving. You may remember that I wrote a blog about it. (You are forgiven if you don’t remember). At the time, I was proud of the solution we had found to keep my family calmly around our table.

But now, I’m not so proud. Both Rona and Mitch described having taken steps towards bridging this difficult conversation gap. I’m not sure I have been able to do so yet. I want to and I think it’s super important. But I admit, emotionally I’m not sure I’m ready.

Bear with me please. I promise to try harder.

Just be Nancy, you are a great communicator with wonderful, smart children. You got this. Dive in.

Teaching/ sharing with our children always belongs on/ at the table. Not necessarily looking to engage too much on the topic since it relates often to my professional work and oft times - do not engage, to the chagrin of someone trying to engage me, bait me into a debate, rather than a discussion. Need to be prudent about bringing work home.

These are indeed emotionally charged times, people often respond to what they perceive you are saying rather than what you have actually said. Nancy, I have only known you for a few years, but I know you well enough to be able to say that when you are comfortable enough to begin a dialogue you will know exactly the right things to say to keep the dialogue flowing, and that you will be able to hear what the other person is actually saying.

Thanks for that vote of confidence Marilyn! I hope you're right!
