The Selfie Phenomenon

Recently I saw a picture of Hilary Clinton at a public event. She was looking out at the crowd smiling and waving but the entire crowd had their backs to her with one arm up in the air. What were they doing, you ask? They were all trying to take a selfie with Hilary.

Selfies are a modern day phenomenon. Every where you go, someone has their phone turned to themselves to memorialize a moment.

There are all sorts of theories about how to ensure the best selfie. The angle of the photo, sometimes skewed to the side, how to position the phone in your hand to get the best shot. And then there is the ultimate tool -- the selfie stick.

As for me, I need a little advice. I am an utter failure at the selfie. I am unsatisifed with every selfie I have ever taken and to top it all off, apparently watching me take a selfie is a pretty funny event, at least my children seem to think so.

Are you a selfie expert?

I take pictures of myself in a mirror-old school.

I prefer not to be in the picture. It just seems so vain to have to have your face in every event you witness. Just me, but then I too am old school.

I am maintaining my perfect record of having never taken a selfie (although I have been in selfies taken by others). It's starting to become, admittedly, a bit of a point of pride, for me. So, if you ever see me taking a selfie, please shoot me (but only with your camera...).

I am terrible at taking a selfie. Ask my kids, they will tell you so. LOL

Not an expert at all. It's fun to do with friends. Part of the fun is the imperfect pictures that create laughter.

Not an expert -- been in some. Some electeds I know like to take them and regularly post to Facebook and sometimes twitter

I have been part of and have taken some great selfies, when I look at them they remind me of great memories...it is very funny to watch.

I am now more conscious of enjoying the moment and not the picture.

I don't feel it's about the quality of the selfie, it's just about that particular moment. No matter how it comes out..
