Royal Visit

Two months ago, my wife and I (plus her siblings, cousins and their spouses) went to Amsterdam at the invitation of the Royal House of Orange.  It seems that a painting that had belonged to my wife's paternal grandparents was stolen from them (by the Nazis) and it somehow found its way into the Royal Collection in about 1960.  It isn't worth a whole lot of money, so the family decided to tell the House of Orange to keep the thing.  As a result of the famliy's generosity, we were given a lovely lunch aboard a royal yacht through the canals, then a private tour of the Royal Palace (quite a place!), and the crowning event was an audience with Queen Maxima who shook our hands warmly.  She's an Argentine who married the King, speaks perfect English (went to a British private school in Buenos Aires), she's very beautiful, gracious, intelligent and quite tall.  An event I'm sure we'll all remember for the rest of our lives!

Wow! What a great experience for your whole family

I love that the royal family thought to reach out and connect with the lineage of the painting. Regardless of the value of the piece, your family adds so much to the story -- where it came from, how it got there, and who the people are who are connected with it. And what a great story to keep telling.

Such a great story! Thanks for sharing this with us Lucas (and family).
