Mets-Yanks Mania

Categories

As a life long Yankee fan I was flexible enough in 1962 to let former Yankee Manager and then Met Manager Casey Stengel's "Metsies" in as my second favorite team and am proud to say that Joanne and I won Banner Day at Shea Stadium in 1964 and I caught my only foul ball (off the bat of Felix Millan) in 1976 at Shea.

I gave this background as prelude to tonight's Yankee-Met contest at Citi Field where I will be one of 125 Gothamites (including Joanne, our 2 sons and 2 grandsons) roosting in the center field stands below the Home Run Apple and the nearby ever yummy Shake Shack.

Corey Bearak and I cooked up this perfect storm way back in February when we had no idea Terry Collins was going to be National League Manager of the Year.

Now the Mets are rolling through a magical season fueled by a late season Cespedes infusion and have such a big lead that even they probably can't blow it.

Having said all of the above, the main purpose of this blog is to plead to the Mets and the Baseball Gods to have them lay down for the Yankees who are in second place in a hot pennant race and desperate for wins.   However, such cross town courtesy is unlikely as the Mets need to keep winning as they attempt to achieve home field advantage through out the Playoffs (thank you Stu Cantor for the reminder).

It is so exciting that I might lose my head and scream "It's great to be young and a Batman"!

Too bad Polo didn't purchase the naming rights and we could then hark back to the Polo Grounds.

Hope Yanks can hit Matz of the Mets tonight.

Fred it was actually in Nov. 2014--- just after the series that we both hope will include only NYC teams in 2015! If you scream, we will tape it and post it! Webmaster?
If TC plays the mistake at SS, I'll cede you that game, but I want to cede nothing based on the pitcher we thrower at your bombers.

In the Mets maiden year 72 year old left handed Casey coined "It's great to be young and a Met" which I purloined.

Mets fans remember 2007. The Mets have something to prove. Should be a great game.

What a great event! Now I'm free and wishing I had bought a ticket...
Take VIDEO of Fred screaming. Double shack burgers in honor of double NYC teams.

Know what the winning banner said. Any pictures? I never went but thought I could have won back in the old days with a banner "Even Fidel Castro says Yankees No and Mets Si"
Flo Feinberg

Are you kidding?.....pray for the Yankees?????
I was at the 1969 final game of the series when the Mets WON!!
We dug up the field to take home a souvenir of sacred ground....GO METS!!

Congrats to the mets for coming out of the Rip-Van-Winkle-esque slumber. Oh wait RVW slept for 20 years. The Mets have slept for 30!! LOL!! GO BOMBERS!!

My father's company had season Mets tickets in 1967-1968 right down the first base line. The players all knew me and signed my Mr. Met doll which my Mom, 30 years later threw out. (might be a blog topic there). So, I am going to have to disagree with you. Lets go Mets!!!

PS Will think of you on my way to Northhampton Mass. to spend the weekend with my college room mates.

Let's go Mets!
Was just a simple question before the season -- which New York team would win more games this year? -- and here we are. What a story! May the best New York team win. (That is, if they have a local kid pitching.....)

Caught my foul ball off the bat of Don Mueller (Mandrake the Magician) at the Polo Grounds -1954. Those were the days - Willie, Mickey and the Duke! A die hard Brooklyn fan, I tip my cap to Yogi who passed away on Yom Kippur on the 50 anniversary of Sandy Koufax refusing to pitch world series game 1. When replacement 23 game winner Don Drysdale was lifted in the 3rd inning down 7 - 1 he said to manager Alston, "I bet you wish I was Jewish also"
