Bagel Stores
There are a few bagel stores in our neighborhood. Two within walking distance, although you'd pass one on the way to the second. Several others are a short drive.
I am not sure whether any of them are significantly “better” than any other; however the loyal fans of any one of them swear that others don't compare to theirs.
And there are different criteria: ambience, decor, the salads, the lox, the cream cheese and, finally, the bagels. Also consider the price. I am amazed at how different some of the prices are. But where does convenience fit in?
Oftentimes, I go out of my way for bagels, driving past one, two or three bagel stores on my way. Not the most convenient, but something makes it worthwhile to go the extra distance.
I wonder whether the bagel stores in my life are an allegory for other behavior. Sometimes, for whatever reason, we don't do what is most convenient.
There is something about Increasingly, I am asking myself why?

Since then my wife discovered a little bagel shop on Garth Road in Eastchester (which for the uninitiated happens to be in southern Westchester County), and truth be told, the bagels are really quite good, and always warm out of the oven.
But I do agree with Fred-- that kind of carb-loading isn't good for the system, so I keep myself to once-a-month.

Always worth it to go the extra mile for quality.
