My 50+ Year Love
Sometimes the most wonderful things can happen.
Monday night I had the great good fortune to attend a screening of West Side Story, one of my all time favorite films.
Always a pleasure to see it on the big screen, however, this night was particularly grand because George Chakiris, the film's Bernardo, would be having a Q&A afterwards. I fell in love with George Chakiris, the moment he was first on screen. There was nobody cooler or hotter than Bernardo. So, of course, I was thrilled at the chance to see him up close and personal. Being the know-it-all that I can sink into, I knew that George would be a "tired, pasted together old queen." I mean, I've seen enough of these old Hollywood stars clinging to their youth, by any chemical necessary. Well I was wrong, so very wrong. He was the nicest, warmest, fittest 81 year old I've ever seen, nothing pasted together about this guy. Completely lovable. A humble artist through and through. I learned my lesson.
Good lessons from the movie too.
"Doc: Fightin' over a little piece of street is so important?"
We're all on this street together.
