Beachball

I have written a few times about my office toys, which include a yo-yo, a baseball, a rubber ball, and a few other assorted diversions.   My partner has a little putting green but he must not like it because he keeps it in a box.

My favorite is the little beach ball.   It is in the picture.  An appellate printer sent it to me as a holiday gift a few years ago.  Mostly I kick it onto the couch, the idea being that it cannot bounce off the wall or roll off the couch onto the floor.  With a little backspin, it floats in the air, and lands softly.  But it takes practice.

I like my beach ball.  It makes me happy.  My granddaughter likes to play with it too when she comes here.  I have thought about giving it to her.  I know she would like it.  And I would give her most anything.

But......not the beachball.

Before getting into real estate, my jobs all had offices and I had toys too. Many people I worked with did. Toys and even practical jokes were part of the culture of some of the companies I worked in. Remind me to tell you the slinky story some day. :)

Since I now only have a small desk in a shared space, I limit my personal items to a picture of my husband and me, and a small desk sign that reads "I have flying monkeys, and I'm not afraid to use them."

I keep a bobblehead of Yogi Berra and a Statue of Mickey Mantle on my desk. In addition, I have a softball hand-signed by Gotham Batman and Bomber Fred Klein.

Give her the ball. My desk includes a small silver dreidel that spins rather well on a glass top and a wooden blue one that fails quickly (it's saving grace being its color) and three baseball-sized nurf balls one replica like; my nieces dog bit open the football so it had to go. There is also a beanbag basketball of small size. Finally a 1 1/4 inch keychain rubix cube. If any grandchild materializes and visits my desk and asks they will leave will it; after all Marisa has my glove (anyone recall the blog?). Off the desk there are two bulletin board collages of (mostly) political buttons and pins (one pin got liberated Monday morning and was shared with a granddaughter of a distinguished late public official who gave me my first real gig). There may be other stuff--just visit my office to see.

How about we share the ball. She gets to keep it for a week or two and than you get it for the same time. Its a good teaching lesson onsharing and not getting everything you want....

On my desk (and book shelves), there are a couple of beautiful metal models of a 1930 Packard Model 740 and a 1949 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, as well as a coffee mug given to me by my cousin Louise when I got my first job out of school in 1981. Also, there's a lovely photograph of my wife taken before we were married (25 years last month), as well as photos of the kids when they were little. Oh, and my networker of the year trophy. And in case I forget my name, I have a cast metal name sign from a short stint at Citibank to remind me.
