A new tradition

Categories
Holidays

As Hanukah is upon us, I wanted to let you know about my spin on a holiday tradition.

I never connected to the religious prayers when lighting candles and wanted to do something that was more meanignful. So i started a new tradition when my children were young. Each night when we lit a candle, we dedicated it to an important person in our lives that had passed. We talked about them, told stories, laughed and cried.

I told some friends and they have adopted this new tradition. Have you done something different over the years during the holidays?

We try to get the families together. Sometimes we host; sometimes we visit; sometimes it both.
We also added a new thing where we get together with several close friends at a home (walking distance for us) on the 25th.
There may be others as our family grows in interesting way.
P.s. Just uploaded an updated set of holiday songs found on YouTube to the Gotham site. Link to be posted soon.

Poignant idea, MT. I'm wondering how many have adopted the "Festivus pole," "airing of grievances," followed by "feats of strength"....

For each candle we light, we make a wish for some one we love.

Sounds like fun!!!! Just letting it happen as the day progress.
