I wear a watch for time and timing

If you are outdated, then so am I. I won't leave the house without my watch but come to think of it, neither of my children wear one.

For most men, it is an acceptable fashion statement, like jewelry for women. I feel you can't have too many, but one usually is used more often than the others. It's a shame if it becomes lost in the cell phone era. For me, it never will.

I'd guesstimate that perhaps as much as 10 times more people (regardless of gender) of our generation wear watches than do those of our children's generation. I agree that for the younger generation, they rely primarily if not exclusively upon their ubiquitous smartphones for the time (and date), whereas we, even if we always have our cells with us, probably check our watches at least occasionally for the time/date. I think it's a generational thing. I wonder what, if anything, the watch industry is trying to do about it, and whether there's anything they can do -- perhaps embrace that a watch is nothing if not jewelry, for the current crop of 20-somethings?

My 20-year-old son wears a watch; his sisters, 23 and 15 do not wear one. Likewise with one of my partners.

I feel naked without a watch on. I have quite a collection - for all seasons. At the moment I am wearing a steel Tissot. Have had it since 1991.

I guess I am in the minority because I have completely stopped wearing a watch. It seemed kind of useless since I always have my phone with me and the time is in big numbers right on the face of the phone every time I look.

I have many nice watches but they just seem impractical. The older I get, the less I care about jewelry for the sake of wearing something. I don't wear rings, bracelets, necklaces or watches anymore and don't miss it at all.

The Omega my wife bought for me at the PX in Germany for our first anniversary lasted about 10 years when it broke and we found out it was a fake (there had been a PX scandal). She next gave me a gold Rolex for our 25th and it has not been off my wrist for what will be 30 years next month. I mostly use my iPhone to tell time.

I tried wearing a watch for a short period of time when I entered the work force right after college. Unfortunately, my avid past-time of playing hockey several times a week did not fare well with my early fashion iterations and after one ruined and lost watch, quickly gave the whole thing up. Not long after that the cell phone phase came around and it np longer seemed like I was missing anything. I really have never worn any jewelry because of my hockey endeavors as a goalie. I stopped wearing my wedding ring when I stopped a hard shot with my glove and later that day my finger swelled up excessively. We were on the first of cutting it off (the ring, not my finger, I am a devoted husband, but not that devoted) when someone was able to grease it with butter and pull it off. Luckily my wife was there to witness the entire experience :) It now sits in a dresser drawer near our bed.

I cannot function without my watch. If the battery dies or the strap breaks, I have to have it fixed immediately, or get a new one (guess it's good I don't wear expensive ones!) Oh, and I wear an analog one too. : ) - Stacey
