Wait, wrong artist.

Continuing his promise to play in New York until the fans stop coming, Billy Joel just announced four new shows at Madison Square Garden into 2015 and they were all sold out in hours. That was on top of 12 sold out shows, one each month, for the entirety of 2014.

Let’s do the math. Roughly 20,000 people at each concert this year. That means approximately 240,000 fans will see Billy Joel in 2014 alone. Kind of staggering. I was one of them.

Bill Joel is reportedly paid $2 million for each concert. Not a bad gig. I guess he’s stuck in a New York State of Mind.

If he were John Fogerty I might be a monthly attendee (I attended all three Beacon shows in Nov. 2013). We attended Aug 7 MSG show two days after seeing John Fogerty with Jackson Browne opening at Jones Beach. For 8 or 9 months Shelly complained that I bought the exorbitant ducats without consulting evidently influenced by some concert that made PBS and did not impress her. She agreed we saw a great concert (thought I enjoyed Fogerty even more).

I had the pleasure of attending his awesome show in October. He has always been one of my favorite performers. I thought the playlist was a good mix of his music throughout the years, with songs highlighting most of his albums. Glad to see his fellow New Yorkers will never stop appreciating him. Go Billy!

My first Billy Joel concert was senior year in high school with approximately one hundred members of my senior class. During "NY State of Mind" he sang Oceanside (my hometown) instead of Riverside. My friends and I went nuts. I have been a fan since and have seen him live several times including The Last Play at Shea. I haven't seen the show at The Garden yet but plan on going soon.

Hopefully the millions every year coming to NY will flock to see Billy the way travelers visiting Las Vegas used to go see Sinatra.
