What’s Your Special Occasion Restaurant?

Categories

I am partial to certain restaurants. My favorite haunt with friends is a local place called Tesoro in Westbury on Long Island. The food is always good and the owner greets you with a smile. Several years ago we celebrated a special occasion at Tesoro and it has become our occasion restaurant ever since.

A close second for my family is Café Formaggio which is just up the road from Tesoro. Café Formaggio has mastered gluten free which makes it our special occasion restaurant when celebrating with my daughter. If you have celiac, the restaurant that brings gluten free bread to the table wins hands down, especially when it offers a gluten free menu with choices as varied as its gluten-full menu.

Do you have a special occasion restaurant?

[And much thanks to Ben Geizhals for my blog topic tonight!]

We enjoyed several chinese restaurants in the nabe but they all closed (not all at the same time). There are Nancy's Fireside on Jericho Tpke in Floral Park and Stella's nearby. Cara Mia in Queens Village (well we would call it Bell Park.). Barosas in Rego Park.. My fave deli is Ben's Best in Rego Park (and not because I can be found in its featured segment on Diners, Dives and Drive-ins" - see link on my website.).
If you like Caribean Faire, try The Door in Southeast Queens.
In Brooklyn, especially when Jonathan lived in Williamsburg, we favored Juliette Restaurant on North 5th off Bedford.
And I am sure a number of Gothamites know my preferred breakfast and lunch venue in Bellerose.

First time at Formaggio last night was good, Bistro Citron in Roslyn is a favorite as is Conte's in Little Neck. We have a new one off the beaten track which I am not allowed to mention.

Even though I don't eat meat, our new favorite place for celebrations has become The Capitol Grille. Their lobster macaroni and cheese is worth every calorie.

If you ever come "Out East" our favorite is Lucharitos in Greenport. They are a little taco and margarita place that has an awesome atmosphere, fabulous food and a full margarita menu. YUMMMM!

Nancy - I like the topic! If "special occasions" are when you can get everyone together, then its the Omega Diner on Lakeville Road and Hillside. Fancy special occasions calls for TJK on Horace Harding Blvd. Just the two of us? Besitos (fancier) or Mediterranean Snack Bar in Huntington. In the City? Cook Shop on 19th and Tenth is a choice - if we're in the neighborhood. Otherwise, have you tried Open Table?

This blog came at a good time. My husband just asked where I want to go to dinner on my birthday. :)
