The red carpet lady

Joan Rivers passed away this week. She was 81 but with plastic surgery she looked a lot younger albeit different.

I remember her signature catchphrases "Can we talk?" and "Grow up!" She broke ground for female comedians. Her quick comebacks, sharp wit and biting humor was never out of style.

She made millions on QVC, was on the Tonight Show 72 times, and kept reinventing herself. A true pioneer and a funny lady. She always made me laugh.

Did you find her funny?

One of the acts I book is a Joan Rivers look alike. I'm sure I'll be getting plenty of calls now. Don't mean to be morbid.

Joan Rivers was ubiquitous. In increasingly diverse venues we saw her more and more as the years passed, not less and less as with so many others. I was surprised she was only 81, in fact. As such a longtime fixture in our lives, it's hard to process that she's gone, so suddenly, and I am saddened by the loss of her. Funny, relentlessly active, more than a bit brash, a frequent sight- here there and everywhere and part of our extended public family, I will miss her. ~ Iris

I admired her will for life... how she held on to life! And i believe she would still be a beautiful woman without all those plastic surgeries.

I think she would have been more beautiful, but if any woman had a right to be self-conscious it was her. In a world where overstatement is common, she was a true pioneer in what had been completely a man's world.

A friend did a blog about Joan Rivers as someone who succeeded many time at re-branding (you used "re-inventing"). I posted this: "Got to credit the late Mrs. Rivers for knowing her brand and being true. Thinking back she always offered a bit of irreverence; she created the freedom to say what she wished.
I did not care much for the topics of her more recent shows but when channel surfing or when too lazy Or focused on my work) to retrieve the changer, I appreciated the acerbic wit.
She was a classic case of eternal growth and the point that we can re-brand or tweak it throughout our career, our life remains key. If Joan can do it and achieve modicums of success with each re-brand, why not open ourselves to the best means of branding ourselves."

Joan went out "on top" at an age where many/most of us are blowing bubbles in our oatmeal whilst searching for our third set of spectacles so as to read last month's copy of "AARP DELIGHT" at the breakfast table. God bless her! Would that each of us go out at the top, looking forward to tomorrow's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" when the lights go out...
