The Pursuit of Happiness

Categories
Lifestyle

Jefferson's three examples of our unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Happiness is the state of Felicity.

It has been said that it's not how much we have but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness (Charles Spurgeon).

Lincoln added most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.

The top 10 things that come mind that make me happy are (not necessarily in the order of importance):

1) French Champagne
2) Family
3) Gotham
4) Winning (fun is more fun when you win)
5) Key West
6) Charcoal
7) Psychic compensation (from Giving)
8) Home made Ice cream
9) Uncontrollable laughter
10) Dreaming up things and seeing them through to creation

Did I miss anything? If so, pursue them!

I gave you mine yesterday....but I'm not sure that still being called Benji is one of them.

You forgot softball, golf and blogging, unless that was encompassed in Gotham, in which case never mind.

I'll throw one in that few mention or even think about...alone time. I love my family and friends dearly, but I cherish my alone time. That is when my mind really is at its peak.

Pursuing things that make me happy is one of my favorite hobbies. Luckily, I'm easily pleased so it isn't a challenge. :)

Oh man.....Fred. What do I enjoy vs. what makes me happy? Close to half of the items on your list are things that you enjoy . Do you think a good bottle of Champagne "enjoyed" with some Sevruga Caviar can bring happiness or does it just bring joy? We are talking about two different things. Hell.....I enjoy a lot of things. What version of "happy" are we talking about. A good cigar or the love of a wife ? A sirloin at Peter Luger's or the unconditional devotion of a dog. So I wonder what could have made Robin Williams happy? Maybe I would like to have taken a shot at that job. Seems so easy doesn't it? So.... I'll go with your # 's 2 5 6 7 and 10. I will add HEALTH ! I'm not sure if you were looking for such depth ! I apologize for the " Why so serious ?" I have to work very hard to maintain my own happiness. It has to come from within. Exorcizing the demons. Keeping them at bay. Living in the moment. Smelling the roses. Watching the Hummingbirds. Listening to my dogs . Loving my family as you do . But let me enjoy! Rare steak! Fresh King Salmon! Single Malt Scotch! Home made ice scream! Clams on the half shell and Roller Skates! You are my brother and I enjoy that . It also makes me happy!

Flattered to become your brother. What we may have most in common ( other than Jo) is needing to exorcize those demons!
