Tragedy

If you are on Long Island and read the story, it happened Sunday afternoon at the pool at Syosset-Woodbury Park. 44 years old and in his prime, leaving his wife and two children. A tragic ending to the life of a colleague and friend. A smart, generous person who knew how to connect with people; not to mention, a really good lawyer.

I know that those of you reading my blog who knew Jonathan Sobel are nodding in agreement.

There isn’t much else that I can write about tonight. I spent a good part of the day talking to colleagues and friends about this tragedy and frankly, it is a little surreal to be planning to attend this funeral tomorrow.

[And since I am on this very sad topic, I must also extend heartfelt condolences to Gotham members Jeff Goldberg and Bob Sommerfield who both lost their wives this week. Hoping that having Gotham family around you brings some comfort.]

Really sad to learn of any loss. Just a reminder of how much we must treasure life; you just never know. Condolences.

Nanc, I am so so sorry for your loss. I read about it yesterday in Newsday. So sad.

Condolences to everyone. It's been bit if a rough stretch. There was a similar accident last week involving a woman who was found in a swimming pool. The woman was discovered by her 13 year-old son who was the hockey goalie we played against in the championship a couple months back. Unspeakable tragedy.

Life imposes its wrath quickly and without reason or remorse.

I have heard only the kindest, most generous accolades about Jonathan. Gone far too soon, but he has certainly affected many with his intelligence, integrity and menchlekeit. May his family and extended community be comforted by all the good in his memory.
