Its A Good Feelin' To Know

I have three favorite songs.

I usually refer to Poco's A Good Feelin' to Know (not even sure which version I go with as my fave - will let the readers help on that later.) It starts, "When I need good lovin', I always come home to you....".  Richie Furay who wrote it and sang lead just gets it.

Enjoy these lyrics:

When I need good lovin'

I always come home to you

You free my lifetime of the blues

Yes I got that old time feelin'

Burnin' deep inside my soul

And I am yours and baby I'm home

And it's a good feelin' to know

It's such a good feelin to know

Oh it's a good feelin' to know

Somebody loves you

Colorado mountains, I can see your

Distant skies

You're bringin' a tear of joy to my eyes

And it's a good feelin' to know

It's such a good feelin to know

Oh it's a good feelin' to know

Somebody loves you

When I need a lift, prepared for a test, sought "help" to get ready to play a ball game I turned to John Fogerty's Creedence Clearwater Revival classic, Up Around The Bend ("There's a place up ahead and I'm goin' just as fast as my feet can fly."  As much as I love this song, the ONLY time I came away satisfied hearing it live was this past November at the Beacon.

View its lyrics:

There's a place up ahead and I'm goin'

Just as fast as my feet can fly

Come away, come away if you're goin'

Leave the sinkin' ship behind

Come on the risin' wind

We're goin' up around the bend

Bring a song and a smile for the banjo

Better get while the gettin's good

Hitch a ride to the end of the highway

Where the neons turn to wood

Come on the risin' wind

We're goin' up around the bend

You can ponder perpetual motion

Fix your mind on a crystal day

Always time for good conversation

There's an ear for what you say

Come on the risin' wind

We're goin' up around the bend

Catch a ride to the end of the highway

And we'll meet by the big red tree

There's a place up ahead and I'm goin'

Come along, come along with me

Come on the risin' wind

We're goin' up around the bend

My total testosterone song sung by my fave rock singer, Paul Rodgers, remains Free's All Right Know.  It's less about the lyrics but the mood, co-writer Andy Fraser's bass solo and the late Paul Kossoff's searing guitar riffs and fuzz chords. This is a rare live version.

Check out its lyrics:

There she stood in the street

Smilin' from her head to her feet;

I said, "Hey, what is this?

Now maybe, baby,

Maybe she's in need of a kiss."

I said, "Hey, what's your name?

Maybe we can see things the same.

"Now don't you wait, or hesitate.

Let's move before they raise the parking rate."

All right now, baby, it's a-all right now.

All right now, baby, it's a-all right now.

(Let me tell you now)

I took her home to my place,

Watchin' every move on her face;

She said, "Look, what's your game?

Are you tryin' to put me to shame?"

I said "Slow, don't go so fast, don't you think that love can last?"

She said, "Love, Lord above,

Now you're tryin' to trick me in love."

All right now, baby, it's a-all right now.

All right now, baby, it's a-all right now

I like all three songs but of the 3 GFTK is my favorite. No surprise to corey, I'm sure. :-)
I'll cop out a bit and say I like all of the linked performances but if I have to choose just one it would be have to be Jones Beach 2009 - well actually a night earlier at the PNC Bank Arts Center in NJ. I've heard many versions of GFTK live by various lineups of Poco and the RFB and it's always one of the best songs in the show.

I had actually never heard of Poco until interacting with Corey through the blog. Love CCR and love "All Right Now", used to think it was sung by Bad Company when I first learned of the song in college, lol
