High Heels

Categories

I asked Joanne (she is uncomfortble in heels) and she has no answer, so I turn to you greater Gotham world.

I have no clue and sincerely want to know: Why do women like (an understatement) shoes (especially high heels) so much?

Rona, Nancy? Ladies, please help me!

P.S. Photo is mine

I hate them. They do nothing but hurt. While they make me feel dressed more and I look slimmer in them, I genuinely hate them and would prefer sneaks or flats any day.

Adding height tends to give a slimming appearance. Just my opinion.

Fred, when you say the "photo is mine", are you telling us that the photo is you in heels? If so, I give you a lot of credit for trying them out. I have enough trouble walking around in cowboy/motorcycle boots.

So I am sitting this morning at "square table" as I respond so I can notice that all the female elected and mature woman wearing flats. One young staffer of 8 young women wearing heels. Update: single female elected in three-inch heels.

I actually don't like high heels. I am tall to begin with and I feel too tall in them. I am also uncomfortable in high heels. I never got used to wearing them.

As for shoes, that's a whole different story. First of all, generally, if your weight goes up and down, your shoe size doesn't change. So, if I'm not liking what I see on the scale, a pair of shoes can help cheer me up. Also, a pair of shoes can change the look of an outfit. For instance, today,I'm wearing a dress with a cardigan and a pair of pumps. If I want to wear the dress out tonight, I switch out the cardigan for a denim jacket and the pumps out for flat sandals.

For me, buying shoes is like treating myself.

Ultimately, wearing high heels leads to many feet problems....most frequently bunions which are unattractive and painful to correct. It seems to me that if one wants to take advantage of the benefits of walking around New York, flat shoes are the way to go. MCW

I haven't worn heels in decades. But they do make your legs look hot - escpecially if you're young and your skirts are short ;0)

It's the first thing I check out when a woman walks by....It's like ZZ Top says...."She has legs and she knows how to use them...." If she fails the leg test...It's over for me. I mean...Well...I could still be friends with her....But even that would be hard. But you really can't get a handle on a woman's legs unless she IS wearing high heels.....Sometimes I wear high heels to check out MY legs. I know a guy who has a high heels fetish. Intials Bob Archer. He has a collection of red ones. In his trunk. Happy Father's Day BTW !

Do you remember when we were going to do the Spice Girls and we went dress and shoe shopping? Never got to see you in heels though.

Basically don't trust them after falling off my favorite pair of platforms first day of summer vacation 15 years ago!!
Broke my foot and ruined the entire summer! So, wearer beware!

The higher the better. It's more about an attitude. High heels empower women in a way.

I've had a serious addiction since I was old enough to buy my own heels.
For me there is no downside :)

Years ago I had a boss who was always immaculately put together, including the highest tasteful heels. Wearing them, she was tall, elegant, perfectly proportioned and very powerful. Out of them, she suddenly transformed into a still attractive but far less imposing Czech peasant woman. It was an amazing lesson for me on the impact that even the simplest things can have on perception.

HIGH heels are not necessary to give a woman the polished, business executive demeanor that heels and skirted business suits have come to represent at the highest levels of professional dress. A pointed toe with a modest ('kitten') heel of even 1 inch will suffice, and allow greater comfort to the wearer.

This is far more cosmic than I ever could have guessed and lesson to my fellow bloggers: intriguing titles and topics carry the day!

Ahhh, I happen to be partial to heels although they aren't as partial to me as they used to be!!
