Napping

There are nappers and non-nappers.  For me, napping is one of the great pleasures and typically it is part of my weekend, each day.  From what I have read, a nap is good for your health.

Most mammals nap throught the day.  We are the only ones with two periods during our twenty four hours, one being awake and the other for sleep.  I prefer to be like a big cat sometimes.  My only rule for a nap is that it has to be on a couch, not my bed, which does not apply in the event of illness.

There is the power nap of course, when one is not planned but there may be ten to fifteen minutes for a quick snooze.  There is the planned nap, which often is after a very long bike ride.  There is the emergency nap, when fatigue is so overwhelming that I have to stop everything and close my eyes.  I don't like those.

And one of my favorites lately is the train nap.  I never used to nap on the train, I would usually read.  But on the way home after a long day I let the train rock me to sleep like a baby in a crib.  I have not missed my stop yet.

I try to nap, but might only succeed on the weekend or when I am physically tired (if I had a tough workout in the morning). I try to take one or two 10 or 15 minute breaks during the day to decompress. I also take brief breaks a few times a day to do something "different", like play Words With Friends or Sudoku (exercise another part of my brain).

I love a good nap. Definitely during the weekends and sometimes during the week when I get home from work. My only problem with the weekday nap is that I then usually get to bed later than usual that evening. Then I'm tired the next day and need a nap when I get home from work. . . We call it the vicious nap cycle.

Don't you find it a little disorienting when you go into a deep sleep nap and wake up and can't remember what time of the day it is and what comes next?

I never learned how to nap properly. I just can't do it. I need complete quiet and total darkness. Lately, insomnia is kicking in...and that def. feels like a nap.

Ronald Reagan was famous for his nap while President...something else you guys have in common ;)

It was said that by the time Clinton was starting his day, Reagan was readying for his midday nap.

In my post college/ pre-marriage days, I recall napping after work before I headed back out. These days a nap if one calls it that involves sitting in my reclining or my desk chair in my office when working on the late side.
