How is Everyone Doing?

My favorite Muppet, Elmo, broke the internet this week. Elmo asked a simple question on X (formerly known as Twitter). Elmo posted:

Elmo is just checking in. How is everyone doing?

Elmo's tweet turned into a therapy session as thousands responded on social media.  Some responders seemed to be doing well.  An overwhelming number of responders, however, seemed to be reaching their limit, telling Elmo about their current troubles. Elmo’s tweet also attracted numerous big brands trying to promote products as well as numerous celebrity responses.

Even President Biden chimed in with his own response to Elmo; reminding people to reach out to friends and family in troubled times.

The enormity of the responses prompted Elmo to return to X and tweeted:

Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you.

I think we have a lot to learn from Elmo’s social media experience this week.  We need to remember to periodically check in on your friends and family.

So, Gotham, how are you doing?

Elmo the therapist. It show the current state of affairs is not so good, unfortunately.

That's a powerful question that needs to be asked in every relationship. In effective communications, it's called, "Checking with the environment". How else can we keep tabs on the pervasive and combustible world of emotional toxicity, if we don't ask such questions? That was also the power and impact of Sesame Street...the language of feeling. We need much more of it. Try it. You'll like it. It builds bridges. Increases productivity. And heals relationships.

Doing better now - just wrapped up a great meeting with my friends at the Gotham Virtual group.

Of course you can complain. Anyone and everyone can complain. The trick is to find someone who will listen and guide you to the possible solutions to anything that ails you. If is is a serious issue that a friend can't help with: Go to a professional: A Shrink!
