Pretty Pictures

Since I was young I always liked to "take pictures".  As such, we have walls of photo albums and other walls covered with "blowups".

With the advent of the digital age and the iPhone camera, if anything, I have upped my game.  I believe that a key secret to taking memorable photographs is being in the moment, seeing a shot, and whipping out my iPhone to capture it.  Thus armed, creativity flows freely.

What's more, with the availability of Instagram and Facebook I have platforms on which to display what I think are pretty pictures (an example is above) and to receive acknowledgment and sometimes approval thereof.

Now, if I only knew how to use Snapchat...

From one of your periodic subjects: I know you can and will learn to use that platform.

It's great you want to keep learning what's new for yourself. Like you I'm enjoying taking pictures and seeing others, that's why my love for Instagram. I must confess I do miss looking through either an album or stack of pictures yet it's so much easier to delete, than tearing a photo or throwing a negative.

I’m totally with you. I loved be to put stuff on Facebook and see people’s reactions. Photography can be a lonely art - but feedback makes it very satisfying .

With Digital photos and the high quality on phones today, it is easy to capture the moment almost anywhere. Always taking pictures, but I too kind of miss the excitement of getting back a roll of film sent out that may have been taken months before. It was almost like a mini time capsule. Digital just seems less permanent but so much easier.

I agree. My dad was a photographer. he always said that his best shots were those that were unplanned.

We call them galleries. Several galleries abound in our home . Kids gallery . Family gallery . Photo gallery . My trusty Canon FTb 35 mm SLR has unfortunately become a relic . So have my metal box of slides , slide projector etc . My photos now are stored in the Cloud or on my Google Drive . Not the same . New photo albums have become extinct . Too bad . Technology has left my photo collection in the dust . Sure I can display them on Instagram or on my phone or computer but it's not the same . I used to be good with my 200 mm telephoto . My 28mm wide angle . My 50 mm standard lense . Now ? I just point and click . I do stroll through the galleries more often but lament the absence of new beauties on the wall. And then there's always the sports memorabila collection . Memories and days of future past . Galleries of my mind .
