The Voices of Children
Over the past few days, amidst funeral plans, vigils and protests, we have seen the children, really young adults, of Parkland, Florida raise their voices.
They accuse the adults of having blood on their hands. With passion and strong articulate words, they speak of change they want to, better said demand to, see. They ask, can our politicians, our government leaders, look them in the eye and still not work together to find a fix to this ever-growing American tragedy?
They speak of two protests in the works – a nationwide march on March 24 and a school walk out day (on April 20, although I have heard other dates).
These are young people who deserve to be heard, and once they are heard, perhaps change will follow.
Will you march on March 24? And, will you encourage your children to stay out of school on April 20?

Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be."

My son will not cut out of school and he will not attend any political protest for either side. He is a great kid and his job is to enjoy his childhood, learn proper values and get an education. He is not supposed to be used to help adults in fighting political battles. I mean no disrespect to anyone, but this is inappropriate.
If anyone thinks that hearing about school shootings will hurt our kids...wait until we see what adding political divisions to all the stresses they have to deal with already in their day-to-day lives. If you think depression and bullying are concerns now, imagine adding politics to the mix for our kids with the social media tidal wave that already drowns them.
I think many good people are hurting and I'm not trying to disparage anyone. Kids are not emotionally prepared to handle the political landscape right now. I'm not sure adults are emotionally prepared to handle the political landscape right now.
Getting our kids involved in these political battles will do irreparable damage. Be careful what you do in trying to deal with a tragedy. Great and irreversible harm can/will be done if this serpent is unleashed in our schools. I have far greater fear of that hurting my kid than I do of a psychotic shooter.
