Making sense

Our Friday blogger “complains” – perhaps mentors – that I use social media not enough. He often cajoles me to post – comment – more, especially on things that matter.  My wife sometimes counters I post too often.  On Facebook some friends (small f intended) may share divergent opinions.   Where facts support another view, I feel compelled to emphasize accuracy (In my practice what we often call "pushback" almost remains a requirement.).

Recently, some friends with whom I share an enjoyment of the music of a particular recording artist agreed we’d focus on that in our social media interactions.

I certainly support discourse and exchange of views but perhaps the forums where we exchange certain commentary require some reconsideration.

It remains a concern when evidence exists of manipulation on some of those media.

Most people who know me know I’m really not very active on social media although I do receive random “pop ups“ from Facebook once in a while from friends which I do respond to. I believe it’s easier to have an honest and frank conversation with people when you’re in the same room, when you can see their faces and they can see yours. Listening is so critical—something that truly is a learned skill which I’m not certain really has transitioned to online interactions.

social media gives us a chance for our voice to be heard by many. Yet it doesn’t allow for the nuances of our voice. So I may not like(fill in the blank) but there is usually a grey area where it can be acceptable. So it can be taken as a absolute of our thoughts, which is rarely the case.

There is nothing like face to face interaction. However, even though it is rife with misunderstanding, I believe the social media outlets ability to let everyone have their say is priceless. The pros far outweigh the cons and if your feed is’nt showing you that, it’s time to prune your garden. The goodness, brilliance, creativity and healing are abundant and growing.

Often I see some of the folks who make the “interesting“ on a regular basis.

You can stop posts from people who don’t support nonhostile discourse.

I have the same concerns (issues) as you. My kids say I post too much. Others tell me I do not post enough. I like Mitch's comments, balance. . .

I did want to have some music associated with this post. Thanks! I should rename my blog now! :)
