A Concert

When I go to a live concert I go to enjoy the music and the rapport with the artist. I prefer when the performer connects with the audience.

We saw Barbra Streisand at Barclay's last week. A wonderful evening. She is a great performer and still has that great voice. And she certainly connected with the crowd in Brooklyn (where she grew up).

Barbra has no reservations about sharing her political views, and with Bill and Hillary Clinton in the audience, she was not shy in her comments. I, for one, agreed with her sentiments, and from the cheers of the crowd, I was certainly not alone. But part of me was waiting for some voice of disapproval. Or, at least, a "let's get on with the music" from someone in the crowd. Respectful? Not one dissenting voice?

Although her views were no surprise to anyone, do people pay that kind of money to hear a performer's political views?

A final note. I will never get used to cell phone cameras blocking my view at a concert.

We saw her way back when in Funny Girl. No cell phones then.

Isn't is wonderful that we live in a place where any person can express themselves? And that we live where you can ignore any beliefs that are different from yours? Yes, it's annoying when a cell phone blocks your view but the benefits outweigh the detriments by a loooong way.

I actually love hearing performers talk to the audience. I feel like I connect better with them.
Until recently, did not agree with you with respect to the cell phones. Then I went to two shows where cell phones were prohibited. It was such a better experience. Nothing blocking my view-a great concept.

Let's hear it for free speech, particularly the kind we adore!-:) Babs remains the greatest.
